My Path to Medicine
I'm Nick Schiavoni, MD—an anesthesiologist driven by a deep fascination with the human body and mind. My journey began at Miami University, where I studied biochemistry and developed a foundational understanding of the molecular systems that support life.

That curiosity led me to pursue a medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where I quickly became captivated by consciousness, psychopharmacology, and the therapeutic potential of medicine.
Advanced Training in Anesthesiology
My growing interest in the science of sensation and consciousness naturally drew me to anesthesiology. I completed:
  • An Internship in Internal Medicine
  • A Residency in Anesthesiology
  • A Fellowship in Acute Pain Medicine and Regional Anesthesia
All at the University of Colorado, a setting that shaped my skillset and professional identity.

After my training, I joined the University of Colorado faculty as an Assistant Professor in Anesthesiology, where I worked closely with acute pain and regional anesthesia teams, and had the privilege of teaching residents and medical students.
Redefining My Role: A More Personal Approach
Although academia offered many rewards, I felt called toward a more dynamic and hands-on role in patient care. I transitioned into life as an independent contractor and locums anesthesiologist, allowing me to:
  • Work across diverse clinical environments—urban hospitals, rural surgery centers, and everything in between
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams of all sizes and backgrounds
  • Deepen my skills through adaptability and real-world problem-solving
This shift also gave me time to reflect and ask: How can I serve more fully?

That question led me to explore innovative therapies and holistic models of care.
The Expansion of My Practice
Today, my work is rooted in anesthesiology but extends beyond the OR. My areas of focus include:
  • Preoperative Wellness & Optimization: Helping patients prepare physically and mentally for surgery
  • Total Pain Management: A multidimensional approach that addresses the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual components of pain
  • Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy: Offering safe, medically guided ketamine therapy as a tool for healing and self-discovery
Each of these areas reflects my belief that medicine should treat the whole person—not just a symptom or diagnosis.
A Life Beyond Medicine
Outside of my clinical work, I’m a lifelong learner, a nature lover, and a devoted family man. I enjoy spending time outdoors with my wife and daughter, embracing the beauty of simplicity and the richness of presence.

Whether I’m navigating the intricacies of human consciousness or hiking through the woods, I’m always guided by curiosity, compassion, and the desire to help others heal.
