Finding Peace Through Mindfulness: Lisa’s Journey
About
I'm Lisa Kring, LCSW, a therapist, teacher, and lifelong student of the human experience. My journey began with a Master of Social Work from the University of Southern California, but my deeper education came through twenty years of committed meditation practice rooted in Theravāda Vipassanā. Over the years, I've trained extensively through Spirit Rock's Dedicated and Advanced Practitioner Programs, studying with renowned teachers such as Dan Siegel, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Venerable Analayo, Ayya Tathaaloka, and Sayadaw U Tejaniya, and I continue to be guided by the teachings of Guy Armstrong, Kittisaro, and Thanissara.
Integrating Mindfulness and Therapy
My clinical work is deeply informed by mindfulness, integrated not as a technique, but as a way of being. For over 15 years, I've served as a senior teacher at InsightLA, where I've led courses in:
- Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
- Mindful Self-Compassion
- The Foundations of Mindfulness
My work has extended beyond the classroom into the workplace, offering mindfulness training for organizations such as William Morris Endeavor, Huffington Post, Citibank, Hulu, and ABC News.
Bringing Healing Where It’s Needed
- Through Insight in Action, I have supported communities on the front lines of social justice, mental health, and education throughout Los Angeles
- With Myla and Jon Kabat-Zinn, I developed and led a Mindfulness for Parents curriculum
- For over a decade, I facilitated groups for those affected by cancer at the SIMMS/MANN Center for Integrative Oncology at UCLA and the Benjamin Center Cancer Support Community in Santa Monica
Expanding the Edges of Care
- Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy with Mystic Health, supporting patients and caregivers in palliative care
- Certified Death Doula services, trained with Alua Arthur of Going with Grace
Life Beyond the Cushion
I live in Los Angeles with my husband and find daily inspiration in my two young adult children, who continue to be my most profound teachers. When I'm not teaching or in session, you can find me in nature, deep in contemplative practice, or connecting with others in soulful community. At the heart of it all, I am devoted to showing up with presence, for myself, for others, and for the world we're co-creating.
